SILHOUETTE IN NEGATIVE SPACE
I paint spots on a piece of paper with watercolours. After drying I observe the unevenness of the paint. At the contours the colour is stronger, beyond that it fades away. With a laser cutting machine I cut curved shapes from the white material. I am draping the textile on a mannequin until they are in harmony with the female body’s figure. I chose that composition that I find the most interesting. After observing the silhouette of the dress, I make my decision. I do not focus on the particular silhouette of the dress but the negative spacing of the pile of materials. At the end of the design, I compose the paint spots on the dress so that they can freely zigzag on the material.
